Jye-Levi Flanagan knows what it means to face the odds. Growing up in the foster care system and living independently since his early teens, the Murray Bridge man had to navigate the world with few resources and even fewer opportunities.

Despite a sparse work history and limited qualifications, Jye was determined to change his career path. He began his journey with IntoJobs, part of the IntoWork Group, where he found the support and guidance he needed.

With a keen interest in hospitality, Jye was placed in several programs designed to equip him with the necessary skills and qualifications for the industry. These programs included the Intro to Hospo Course, which provided a foundation in hospitality basics; RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) training, which is essential for working in licensed venues; and GLOVES Populi Solutions – a six-week initiative that combines an hour of boxing with an hour of group counselling in Mount Gambier, helping participants build physical and mental resilience.

Through his dedication and hard work, Jye-Levi successfully completed his courses, significantly enhancing his employability in the hospitality sector.

With the unwavering support of his IntoJobs Mobile Employment Consultant, Jessie-Dee, Jye-Levi was referred to a brokered vacancy with Paddle Wheelers Murray Cruises. He excelled in the job interview, showcasing his newfound skills and confidence. Shortly after the interview, Jye-Levi received an employment offer, which he accepted with great enthusiasm.

“I never thought I’d be where I am today. The support from IntoJobs and the skills I gained have truly changed my life,” said Jye-Levi.

To further support Jye-Levi’s employment, Jessie-Dee contacted the employer to offer a Youth Bonus Wage Subsidy. This subsidy was approved and has played a crucial role in helping Jye-Levi maintain secure and ongoing employment. The subsidy not only benefits Jye-Levi by providing financial support but also helps the employer by reducing the initial costs of hiring and training a new employee.

“It’s inspiring to see how Jye-Levi overcame his initial lack of confidence and turned things around with the right support and qualifications,” said Jessie-Dee.

Jye-Levi is now excited to continue developing his skills and gaining more experience, aiming to build a successful and fulfilling career in the hospitality industry. “I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and I’m looking forward to growing in my role and making a positive impact,” he said.
